Shapeways Now Offers Large Scale 3D Printing

3D Printing company Shapeways adds a new,
larger printer.

3D printing is generally reserved for fairly small objects unless you are one of the lucky few who has access to specialty high end machines. Fortunately for the rest of us, Shapeways is continuing to expand its already excellent services. Their previous size limit was 230 x 180 x 310mm, but now they have a new machine which can print up to 700 x 380 x 580mm, roughly twice the size in every dimension (or eight times the volume).

The one small catch is that only their White, Strong, and Flexible material can be used for the larger prints, but remember that this material can be dyed in four seasonal colors.

Don’t forget, for their strong white and flexible you can coat the material in CA glue (the good kind of super glue you get at better hobby shops, not crazy glue that’s got a bunch of stuff in it to keep it fresh for years).
You can also coat it with epoxy like paint.
Other options are to sand, spot fill (fancy word for bondo type smoothing), prime, and paint it to look even better at that scale.
Don’t forget also you get out, what you put in, so get them a good model!
