This is an experimental design of an alternative mount plate for the ShapeOko CNC machine.
The purpose of the redesign is to improve on a couple of issues with the original:
- The prototype design is easier to get for more people!
- The prototype design is about 1/3 as wide than the original one, thus increasing potential travel distances on the Y-axis.
- The prototype design is "lighter" that the original, requiring less power to move the gantry, and decreasing shipping costs.
I can't guarantee this will work, but for anyone looking to build a ShapeOko this could potentially be a good starting point. I've played with acrylic plates before and their strength always surprises me.
If you end up using this design, please provide feedback on it's rigidity and potential weaknesses.
