For The Home: Lighting: Tulip Flick

Based on the success of the Tulip Star design, I decided to see if I could refine it. I wanted to take the original, highly stylised, design and make it more organic. The result was Tulip Flick...

This item consists of a tulip-shaped light shade for a hanging light fitting. I would recommend using this item with a CF bulb only (incandescent bulbs are likely to give off too much heat).

This item is designed to work with a standard Bayonet light fitting (BC22), as used in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, Ireland, France and the Middle East. I can supply this design to work with most other 'normal' light fittings (e.g. E26 (MES) in North America or E27 (ES) in Europe), at no extra cost, if you can supply me the outer diameter of your light fitting (e.g. a BC22 bulb has a Ø22mm base that works with a fitting that has an outer diameter of 28mm). Please note that this shade will not fit onto a light fitting that sits flush with the ceiling (it needs at least a short length of cable to hang from).

Once assembled, this item is 260mm [10.2"] high and 250mm [9.8"] in diameter. This item is supplied in 3mm [0.08"] frosted acrylic plastic. I'd be happy to supply this item in any of the 3mm [0.08"] acrylics available from Ponoko, at no extra cost. For options, see http://www.ponoko.com/make-and-sell/materials

This item comes as a flat-pack kit that can be assembled without any tools in about five minutes. For customisation options and assembly instructions, see http://tions.net/go.html#r.02.01.02

A variation on this theme can be seen in the more stylised Tulip Star design: http://www.ponoko.com/showroom/rraadd/for-the-home-lighting-tulip-star-1867

I can ship this product anywhere that Ponoko can reach, but I'll need to quote you for your specific location. Please contact me for a shipping quote.

Please feel free to contact me before you buy if you have any questions!

Kids/Education: Spelling 101

I wanted to help my daughter progress from recognising the letters of the alphabet to being able to read (and spell) her first words. To get us started I contacted our local school and obtained a copy of the vocabulary list they use to assess the reading level of new school entrants. This list of 32 words was a great start for us, but it also threw up a small problem. I wanted to use an alphabet set we had to add a tangible element to her learning experience, but some of the words required duplicate letters to spell out (e.g. the word 'SEE' requires two letter 'E's). We had a similar issue with spelling out her name using the letter set we had. It would have required me to buy another letter set, or two, but I didn't really need three letter 'Z's. What to do? Ponoko to the rescue...

What you get in this item: a 4-page print out of the Spelling 101 word list (32 words); plus a set of 36 plastic letters (the standard 26, plus 10 extras), matched to the word list, that guarantees you can spell each word on the list (i.e. there are duplicates/triplicates of the appropriate letters). It is worth noting that the plastic letters match the size and shape of those on the print out, such that the former can be overlaid onto the latter. In addition, if you tell me the name of your child/children, I'll make sure the letter set supplied includes an appropriate mixture of letters that will allow them to spell out their name(s) too. As part of your order, I'll also confirm whether you want the 'MOM' or 'MUM' word list (depending on which side of the Atlantic you're on).

The plastic letters in this set can be cut from any of the 3mm [1/8"] -thick acrylic plastics available from Ponoko. For options, see http://www.ponoko.com/make-and-sell/materials

For The Home: Lighting: Tulip Star

Once upon a time, my wife had a beautiful tulip-shaped light shade made from frosted white glass. Sadly it has been lost to time, but it's been a long-standing goal of mine to replace it for her. Ponoko has made that possible, and she liked it so much, I thought I'd see if anyone else would like one too...

This item consists of a tulip-shaped light shade for a hanging light fitting. The 'blades' of the shade are subtly patterned with stars, distributed to suggest the patterning inside a real tulip.

For customisation options and assembly instructions, see http://tions.net/go.html#r.02.01.01

Games: Backgammon Board: Table

Want this product customised/personalised? Let me know what you have in mind, and I'll see what I can come up with (it's one major advantage of going with a laser-cut solution!)

I love playing Backgammon, but a traditional board needs a flat, level surface and it doesn't take much of a knock to mess up the board during play. One solution is a magnetic set, but I seem to spend more time unsticking the counters from one another than I do playing! Surely there's a better way?! There is - a simple, slotted board.

This item consists of a 384mm x 326mm [15.1" x 12.8"] backgammon board, with slots to contain the counters in play. This item is suitable for use on a table at home - for a more portable option please see:
The 'travel' version (full-sized board, but in two, interlocking pieces) - http://www.ponoko.com/showroom/rraadd/games-backgammon-board-travel-1826
The 'mini' version (full-sized board, but in four, interlocking pieces) - http://www.ponoko.com/showroom/rraadd/games-backgammon-board-mini-1825
The 'micro' version (half-sized board, in four, interlocking pieces) - http://www.ponoko.com/showroom/rraadd/games-backgammon-board-micro-1824

The material options, below, all use 3mm [1/8"] -thick acrylic plastic, but I'd be happy to supply this design in any of the materials, plastic or wood, that Ponoko offers. Please contact me for a quote if you'd like to use an alternative material or thickness. For options see http://www.ponoko.com/make-and-sell/materials

If you order a 'plus counters' option you'll get 16 red and 16 black counters, made from 3mm [1/8"] acrylic. If you'd like to source your own counters (instead of buying them from me), you'll need to find some that are less than 19mm [¾"] in diameter to fit in the slots.

Please note that you will need to source your own doubling cube and dice.

I can ship this product anywhere that Ponoko can reach, but I'll need to quote you for your specific location. Please contact me for a shipping quote.

Please feel free to contact me before you buy if you have any questions!

Want this product customised/personalised? Let me know what you have in mind, and I'll see what I can come up with (it's one major advantage of going with a laser-cut solution!)

This item consists of a pair of matching 'petal' pieces used to fabricate a headboard for a single bed. The headboard is a self-assembly project and will require additional parts and fabrication, as per the instructions at http://tions.net/go.html#diy.14

This item is made from 9mm [0.35"] double-sided whiteboard (MDF coated on both sides with melamine plastic). The finished headboard is 872mm [34½"] wide.

I can ship this product anywhere that Ponoko can reach, but I'll need to quote you for your specific location. Please contact me for a shipping quote.

Please feel free to contact me before you buy if you have any questions!
