DIY Projects: Jigs And Router Templates: 1/8 Scarfing Jigs

This is a FREE design template to partner the 'yacht design » dinghy » houdini' web page: http://tions.net/CA256EA900408BD5/vwWWW/yacht~04~01

This design contains two jigs: a simple 1/8 angle for use with a table or drop saw; a pair of end pieces that are joined with a pair of 22mm aluminium channels to create a 1/8 sliding jig for use with an electric plane. Also included is a 'boot' that fits to the rear of a Riobi 82mm plane to carry it inside the sliding jig.

The template is designed to be applied to a P2 material sheet. I can recommend the double-sided whiteboard as a suitable material.<br></br><img alt="01" src="http://static3.ponoko.com/design_images/images/351/a93cf6db-023b-387c-b847-53d72dcc2be5/01.99.03.01_showroom_image.png" />

DIY Projects: Jigs And Router Templates: Houdini Frame And Centrecase

This is a FREE design template to partner the 'yacht design » dinghy » houdini' web page: http://tions.net/CA256EA900408BD5/vwWWW/yacht~04~01

This design contains router templates for the centrecase and the frame member used in frame #3 and #5. Note that the centrecase template combines the two ends into a single template (i.e. part of the template is used to shape each end of the centrecase).

The template is designed to be applied to a P3 material sheet. I can recommend the double-sided whiteboard as a suitable material.

Outdoor: Sun Compass/Clock

I was fascinated with the idea of a Sun Compass/Clock presented here: http://chrismolloy.com/sunclock

The basic principle is that it can help you to accurately calculate either: the current time; or a true north bearing (or any other bearing, by extension); or your current latitude. All that is required is that you know any two of the three, and that you have an accurate Sun Compass/Clock diagram to work from.

This product consists of an acrylic plastic 'holder' that houses a Sun Compass/Clock diagram created for your specific latitude using a free-to-use web application. The web application can be used as often as you wish to generate a diagram for any latitude (just in case you want to use your Sun Compass/Clock at another latitude in the future). This product includes a sliding gnomon (shadow stick) that is positioned based on the current date. This product also includes a spare gnomon, just in case you lose the first one.

More information, including assembly and usage instructions for this tool, plus a link to the Sun Compass/Clock diagram generator specific to this product, can be found at http://rraadd.com/www/05.01

I can ship this product anywhere that Ponoko can reach, but I'll need to quote you for your specific location. Please contact me for a shipping quote.

Please feel free to contact me before you buy if you have any questions!

For The Home: Clock Face: Nautilus

This item consists of a clock face in the form of a stylised nautilus shell. The number of 'cells' corresponds to the numbers one to twelve. You will need to source and install your own clock mechanism.

This item is comprised of two pieces made from 3mm [1/8"] -thick acrylic plastic, bonded together. The 'front' piece is orange in the accompanying images, and the 'rear' piece is red. Both pieces can be supplied in any combination of colours available from Ponoko, at no extra cost. I can particularly recommend using a transparent colour on top of an opaque colour. The default size for this item is 300mm [11.8"] high, but other size options are available. To view the size and colour options before you buy, see http://rraadd.com/www/02.02.02

The clock face has a 5mm [0.2"] Ø hole in the centre for mounting your clock mechanism through. You can drill this to size yourself, but if you know the exact size hole you need, I can cut the hole to meet your specific requirements for no extra cost.

I can ship this product anywhere that Ponoko can reach, but I'll need to quote you for your specific location. Please contact me for a shipping quote.

For The Home: Clock Face: Mackintosh

In 1902 Charles Rennie Mackintosh was commissioned to design Hill House, in Helensburgh, Scotland. Squares, rectangles and lines defined the motif for the house and its furnishings. Amongst the most recognised of pieces designed for the house is Mackintosh's hall clock, replicated here.

This item consists of a clock face cut from the 3mm [1/8"] -thick acrylic plastic of your choice and bonded to a white foam-board backing. The default size for this item is 300mm [11.8"] high/wide, but other size options are available. To view the size and colour options before you buy, see http://rraadd.com/www/02.02.01

Please note that you will need to source your own clock mechanism to fit onto the clock face.

Jewellery: Flower Button

In a bid to reduce material waste, I've created a small product that I can use to fill the empty spaces within other designs. This product is slightly different from my other products in that it is a 'what is in stock' item, as opposed to a 'made on demand' item.

The design is a flower 'button' that is 50mm [2"] in diameter. The button has four small holes, arranged in a square, at the centre, surrounded by an etched circle. The button is intended to be used as a jewellery item, but it would also be suitable for use as a greeting card embellishment, or even as a real button.

The price quoted is the price per item. Availability is normally limited to what is in stock, but I'd be happy to quote you for an entire sheet of buttons (e.g. the P1 material sheet will fit twelve buttons), in the colour and size of your choice, should you require it. For the latest 'Flower Button Stock List', please see http://rraadd.com/www/02.03.01

I will confirm the material and quantity availability of your order before any billing occurs.

The postage costs are for up to twelve buttons sent together. Please contact me for a quote to send any more than twelve buttons in a single package.

Kids/Education: Solar System To Scale

This item is an educational wall-hanging that represents the Solar System. All items are represented to scale, including the Sun (of which only a segment is shown), all eight planets, Saturn's rings and Jupiter's red spot. The Earth is 10mm [0.39"] in diameter. The diameter of the Sun, if represented in full, would be 1090mm [42.91"]. This item measures 790mm [31.10"] high and 192mm [7.56"] wide.

This item is designed to be hung on a wall, and looks particularly effective when abutting a door or window frame. I can supply this item in either a left- or right-handed version, depending on which side of your door or window you want to use.

This item can be cut, at no extra cost, from any of the 3mm [1/8"] -thick acrylic plastics available from Ponoko. I'd recommend sticking to yellow, orange or red. The text labels on this item are engraved into the plastic and then inked in black. To view the colour options before you buy, see the 'Colour Pre-visualiser' at http://rraadd.com/www/04.02

After you submit your order, I'll ask you whether you want a left- or right-handed version, and in which colour.

For The Home: Lighting: Tulip Flick

Based on the success of the Tulip Star design, I decided to see if I could refine it. I wanted to take the original, highly stylised, design and make it more organic. The result was Tulip Flick...

This item consists of a tulip-shaped light shade for a hanging light fitting. I would recommend using this item with a CF bulb only (incandescent bulbs are likely to give off too much heat).

This item is designed to work with a standard Bayonet light fitting (BC22), as used in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, Ireland, France and the Middle East. I can supply this design to work with most other 'normal' light fittings (e.g. E26 (MES) in North America or E27 (ES) in Europe), at no extra cost, if you can supply me the outer diameter of your light fitting (e.g. a BC22 bulb has a Ø22mm base that works with a fitting that has an outer diameter of 28mm). Please note that this shade will not fit onto a light fitting that sits flush with the ceiling (it needs at least a short length of cable to hang from).

Once assembled, this item is 260mm [10.2"] high and 250mm [9.8"] in diameter. This item can be cut, at no extra cost, from any of the 3mm [1/8"] -thick acrylic plastics available from Ponoko. The default colour is transparent frosted white. To view the colour options before you buy, see the 'Colour Pre-visualiser' at http://rraadd.com/www/02.01.02

This item comes as a flat-pack kit that can be assembled without any tools in about five minutes. For assembly instructions, see http://rraadd.com/www/02.01.02

After you submit your order, I'll ask you which coloured acrylic you want to use.

A variation on this theme can be seen in the more stylised Tulip Star design: http://www.ponoko.com/showroom/rraadd/for-the-home-lighting-tulip-star-1867

I can ship this product FREE to anywhere that Ponoko can reach.

Kids/Education: Spelling 101

I wanted to help my daughter progress from recognising the letters of the alphabet to being able to read (and spell) her first words. To get us started I contacted our local school and obtained a copy of the vocabulary list they use to assess the reading level of new school entrants. This list of 32 words was a great start for us, but it also threw up a small problem. I wanted to use an alphabet set we had to add a tangible element to her learning experience, but some of the words required duplicate letters to spell out (e.g. the word 'SEE' requires two letter 'E's). We had a similar issue with spelling out her name using the letter set we had. It would have required me to buy another letter set, or two, but I didn't really need three letter 'Z's. What to do? Ponoko to the rescue...

What you get in this item: a 4-page print out of the Spelling 101 word list (32 words); plus a set of 36 plastic letters (the standard 26, plus 10 extras), matched to the word list, that guarantees you can spell each word on the list (i.e. there are duplicates/triplicates of the appropriate letters). It is worth noting that the plastic letters match the size and shape of those on the print out, such that the former can be overlaid onto the latter. In addition, if you tell me the name of your child/children, I'll make sure the letter set supplied includes an appropriate mixture of letters that will allow them to spell out their name(s) too. As part of your order, I'll also confirm whether you want the 'MOM' or 'MUM' word list (depending on which side of the Atlantic you're on).

The plastic letters in this set can be cut, at no extra cost, from any of the 3mm [1/8"] -thick acrylic plastics available from Ponoko. To view the colour options before you buy, see the 'Colour Pre-visualiser' at http://rraadd.com/www/04.01

For The Home: Lighting: Tulip Star

Once upon a time, my wife had a beautiful tulip-shaped light shade made from frosted white glass. Sadly it has been lost to time, but it's been a long-standing goal of mine to replace it for her. Ponoko has made that possible, and she liked it so much, I thought I'd see if anyone else would like one too...

This item consists of a tulip-shaped light shade for a hanging light fitting. The 'blades' of the shade are subtly patterned with stars, distributed to suggest the patterning inside a real tulip. I would recommend using this item with a CF bulb only (incandescent bulbs are likely to give off too much heat).

This item is designed to work with a standard Bayonet light fitting (BC22), as used in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, Ireland, France and the Middle East.
Games: Backgammon Board: Table

I love playing Backgammon, but a traditional board needs a flat, level surface and it doesn't take much of a knock to mess up the board during play. One solution is a magnetic set, but I seem to spend more time unsticking the counters from one another than I do playing! Surely there's a better way?! There is - a simple, slotted board.

This item consists of a 384mm x 326mm [15.1" x 12.8"] backgammon board, with slots to contain the counters in play. This item is suitable for use on a table at home - for a more portable option please see:
The 'travel' version (full-sized board, but in two, interlocking pieces) - http://www.ponoko.com/showroom/rraadd/games-backgammon-board-travel-1826
The 'mini' version (full-sized board, but in four, interlocking pieces) - http://www.ponoko.com/showroom/rraadd/games-backgammon-board-mini-1825
The 'micro' version (half-sized board, in four, interlocking pieces) - http://www.ponoko.com/showroom/rraadd/games-backgammon-board-micro-1824

The material options, below, all use 3mm [1/8"] -thick acrylic plastic, but I'd be happy to supply this design in any of the materials, plastic or wood, that Ponoko offers. Please contact me for a quote if you'd like to use an alternative material or thickness. For options see http://www.ponoko.com/make-and-sell/materials

Other customisation/personalisation options and a 'Colour Pre-visualiser' are available at http://rraadd.com/www/03.01.01

If you order a 'plus counters' option you'll get 16 red and 16 black counters, made from 3mm [1/8"] acrylic. If you'd like to source your own counters (instead of buying them from me), you'll need to find some that are less than 19mm [¾"] in diameter to fit in the slots.

Please note that you will need to source your own doubling cube and dice.

Games: Backgammon Board: Micro

I love playing Backgammon, but a traditional board needs a flat, level surface and it doesn't take much of a knock to mess up the board during play. One solution is a magnetic set, but I seem to spend more time unsticking the counters from one another than I do playing! Surely there's a better way?! There is - a simple, slotted board.

This item consists of a 181mm x 154mm [7.1" x 6.1"] backgammon board, with slots to contain the counters in play. This item breaks down into four, interlocking pieces to enhance its portability. For other options please see:
The 'table' version (full-sized board, in a single piece) - http://www.ponoko.com/showroom/rraadd/games-backgammon-board-table-1827
The 'travel' version (full-sized board, in two, interlocking pieces) - http://www.ponoko.com/showroom/rraadd/games-backgammon-board-travel-1826
The 'mini' version (full-sized board, in four, interlocking pieces) - http://www.ponoko.com/showroom/rraadd/games-backgammon-board-mini-1825

Other customisation/personalisation options and a 'Colour Pre-visualiser' are available at http://rraadd.com/www/03.01.04

If you order a 'plus counters' option you'll get 16 red and 16 black counters, made from 3mm [1/8"] acrylic. If you'd like to source your own counters (instead of buying them from me), you'll need to find some that are less than 9mm [0.35"] in diameter to fit in the slots.

Please note that you will need to source your own doubling cube and dice.
