P3exactilefullset3mm Eps

Exactile is the result of a collaboration between BDi a research and IP development partnership of which i am half, and TecMinho from the university of Minho in Portugal.
Designed as an improvement on and replacement for the hideous little tile spacers currently available, Exactile is a return to the more traditional tool concept but instead of wedges, is a single, rigid and accurate placement guide for floor tile.
A more elaborate version has been developed for the tile industry incorporating a bubble level, and a series of blades that can be arranged in different ways to cover all kinds of tile laying patterns, including tozzetto tiles. This basic set allows the DIY tiler to lay tile more accurately while avoiding the need for spacers. There is a problem with spacers in that they are frequently left in place, grouted over, and cause tiles to lift. By removing the spacer from the equation, and increasing laying accuracy, there is a double benefit for the user.
A manual describing the Exactile in greater detail is in edit at present and will appear on Lulu shortly for free download, or purchase in a nice shiny cover.
If you have further questions in the meantime, please make contact.
Happy tiling....

Acrylic RepRap Design

This is a version of the Open Source RepRap (technically a GPL'd RepStrap) modified to print on Ponoko's service by diamondage.co.nz and to use more frequently available components. It is on its third prototyping run and there are no build instructions beyond those already existing for Ian's original design at bitsfrombytes.com.

It includes many experimental features: 2 extruders with a manual swap mechanism, a two-stepper option using a capstan on the Z axis, a gear motor option for the Z axis, lasercut bearing races, ball-chain throughout instead of belt, NEMA17 and NEMA23 motor mounts and some thickened parts that I found to be too breakable in 4.5mm acrylic.

The original SVG source files are available from the RepRap Project SVN repository on sourceforge.net

iPhone Document Scanner

Hello, and thanks for visiting my showroom!

When I got my iPhone last year I loved having everything important in one place, and the ability to get rid of unnecessary devices, documents and information I kept with me. I would frequently snap photos of class assignments printed on copy paper so I wouldn't have to worry about losing them. The documents normally came out pretty clear, but it was tough to keep still while taking the pictures. I set out to make something that would ensure clean, consistent pictures of documents taken with the iPhone that would be free and easy to make on your own. And so, here you will find the eps files to make your own iPhone document scanner.

I have provided them to you for free to make your very own iPhone Document Scanner until one is available for purchase here in my store!

Contest Entry for Summertime - gesture of two people (ie couple) expresses the joys of summer with their hands and arms thrown back. The campfire is symbolic of sitting around one but also can be replaced and another symbol of your choosing be placed in the center. The back layer is the Summer Sun. The three pieces are adhered to one another with a small metal plate added to the back so the piece can be attached to clothes with a magnet (ie nametag).
A pinning mechanism and/or a small necklace strung through the opening below the hands coming together could also be used as well.

Core Necklace

Summer for me is a time of reflection, a time to think about core things in my life. The simple shape and hand drawn lines radiating outward (or delving inward) evoke this reflection space. And they fit the easygoing hot-weather wardrobe.

The engraved lines are intended to be filled with ink as shown in danemery's Instructables tutorial "How to make laser-cut jewelry for Valentine's Day."

Thin black cording can be looped through each of the two holes and tied at the back, so the pendant appears to be hanging on two cords.

The two locket shapes provided are 2 New Zealand summer icons: the Pohutakawa flower (or New Zealand Christmas tree), and a tomato sauce bottle (common to the great kiwi bbq). - they look great even without anything inside.

This jewelry literally makes an impression!

inspired by summer tan-lines, summer haiku is a wearable stencil. Just position the stencil words on your skin, spray sunblock on top - and get out on the beach! You'll have a poetic tan in no time at all.

The haiku is a japanese poem on summer by "Issa" (1762-1826), written in Helvetica.

An attractive necklace that looks great in, or out of the sun.

CITYBLOCKS

GAME PIECES: made of different coloured plastic
Board: 8 playing boards, 4 with road grids , 4 are blank
Building blocks: Skyscrapers, offices, parking garages, 2-storey apartments, 1-storey houses, entertainment venues

CITYBLOCKS is a game where 2 or 4 players design their own part of a city, with the help of a Design Card, before joining the city grids together to form the whole city. Points are gained or lost due to the placement of buildings and green spaces, either by the players themselves, or when the grids are joined, by the common borders they share. Each player has different requirements they must try to attain while still watching what their neighbor is doing.

VERSIONS
Young: players just use the boards with the street grids. Players have a time limit to build their city, using a Design Card, with points awarded when all the boards are joined. The player with the most points wins.

Mature: The same as Young but the points gained in the first phase are used to buy buildings they use on the blank boards as they use another Design Card to design the road placement as well as building placement

Acrylic Puzzle

This puzzle uses lazer-cut acrylic discs to be stacked and locked into a spherical form. The simple disc layers use cut outs from the layer on top to hold them in place. These cut-outs also create a form which is visible within. Clear acrylic is best suited for this form, since it refracts light in interesting ways and reveals the inner form. Users can enjoy it alone or with others and display it anywhere.<br></br><img alt="Acrylic_puzzle_1_showroom_image" src="http://assets3.ponoko.com/design_images/shows/5586/1280/acrylic_puzzle_1_showroom_image.jpg" />

Carbon

Carbon is a snap-together construction set of hexagons, pentagons and connectors to build open and closed 3-dimensional surfaces from 1mm thick styrene.
Details of the connectors are highlighted when a Carbon capsule is used as a low-wattage lamp shade (pictured) on a table lamp. A type "T" 25-watt bulb fits into the capsule easily. Avoid larger bulbs or higher wattages to prevent warping or melting the styrene.
The eps file carboncapsule.eps contains enough pieces to build the lampshade, plus a few extras. If designing your own set of pieces, be sure to keep the part edges at least 5mm apart on your layout. See photos for alternate views of the assembled capsule and some illustrations on how to assemble the connectors and polygons.<br></br><img alt="Carbonlampon_showroom_image" src="http://assets3.ponoko.com/design_images/3771/2342/carbonlampon_showroom_image.jpg" />

A segmented snake-like creature. This is my first Ponoko item and the press to fit worked much better than I had expected. The connecting segments are just tight enough that you have to twist them in and after a few turns they're just loose enough to give snake friend a pleasing movement.

I used Inkscape to lay it out. You can find the SVG file here:

'Tea' patterned Box Lamp

Derived from Dan's box lamp:
http://www.ponoko.com/showroom/madebydan/401
It is designed to be made with 4.5mm Arctic Ice acrylic and 4.75mm Hardboard.

This design uses two different patterns over the four panels: one a geometric tessellation inspired by tea-leaves, the other a tessellation of typographical forms from the translation of 'tea' into various scripts.

The patterns were scanned from drawings and automatically traced in Illustrator so are unnecessarily complex in terms of paths - if anyone would like to simplify them to reduce the cutting costs, that would be great!

The panels slot together and are meant to be held in friction by small hardboard wedges, however in practice I think this system needs more development - or maybe I got the hardboard thickness wrong. There is currently a lot of wastage on the hardboard sheet, so you might want to consider adding any other items you want cut to that one.
