Spazzy Squirrel Table Decoration - Plans

THIS SQUIRREL HAS GONE NUTS!

I cut this squirrel out of construction paper a few years ago when I was making placemats for a holiday dinner. When Ponoko introduced their Photomake service, I thought it was a perfect opportunity to turn the little critter into a 3D version that could sit on a side table, or in a centerpiece, or amongst your books on your shelves. So I scanned the original, cleaned it up it in Photoshop, and handed it off to Ponoko to do their magic.

When assembled, he stands around 16.5 cm tall (6.5 inches).

HOW TO MAKE THIS DESIGN

1. Download the .svg file somewhere on your computer. The "Download" button is at the bottom of this page. (It says ".eps", but actually you'll be asked to save an ".svg" format file.)

2. Upload the .svg file to your My Ponoko account - click here: http://www.ponoko.com/design_documents/add

Once it's in your account, you can experiment with materials, thickness, and color, then click the "Make It" button to see instant cost estimates. (Hint: acrylic is cheaper to cut than wood, and thinner is cheaper.)

ASSEMBLY TIPS

The big acorn goes in front of squirrel and a little to the left. The grass goes behind squirrel wherever you want it. Or put the grass in front and the acorn in back--nobody will care! Use model cement or hot glue to stick everything together. Think happy thoughts.

Acrylic RepRap Design ($20 donation to author)

($20 donation-to-author-version) This is a version of the Open Source RepRap (technically a GPL'd RepStrap) modified to print on Ponoko's service by diamondage.co.nz and to use more frequently available components. This is designed for the experimenter and for the moment there are no build instructions beyond those already existing for Ian's original design at bitsfrombytes.com.

It includes many experimental features: 2 extruders with a manual swap mechanism, a gear motor option for the Z axis, lasercut bearing races, ball-chain throughout instead of belt, NEMA17 and NEMA23 motor mounts and some thickened parts that I found to be too breakable in 4.5mm acrylic.

The original SVG source files are available free from the RepRap Project SVN repository on sourceforge.net and you do not have to pay me $20 for them. But if you do, I get to know how many RepRaps are made from my design, which is cool. - Vik :v)

Transient Cool - a pendant / fan

Perfect for summer, this lovely necklace doubles as a stylish fan. The design features a ten layer pattern which transforms in three dimensions. It is at once highly geometric and organic. The morphing profile gives the open fan a shape reminiscent of a nautilus while the pattern inside radiates like a flower.

Dimensions: 5.4" x 1.6" x .4" (in pendant form)

------------------------------------------------
This is the .EPS file for the fan necklace. To assemble it you will need something with a diameter of 3/32" to rivet together the fan. We used aluminum tube that you can find at most hardware stores. Cut the tube to size with a saw or a dremel, insert it through the layers and then hammer on both sides to create a rivet.

I think since this won the competition, Ponoko will make it for free, but I'm not quite sure yet.

Daisy chain

What describes summer best than sitting in the park , making daisy chains. Awesome! Putting these daisies together is so much fun, and what a rewarding result. Love it!

The photo’s demonstrate that the concept works… but cut from styrene; this material really doesn’t do the concept justice.
Beg , plea and bribe Ponoko to cut it from tyvek, fabric, paper, anything that’s soft playful, beautiful.

"3D" is a play on words and represents my frustration with trying to create something that escapes the restrictions of the 2 dimensional manufacturing process.

I attempted several other designs and always ended up with something that was not possible using a laser cutter on a flat plane.

"3D" eventually emerged as a cruel joke; taunting me and my inadequacies.

Made of 10mm Colour Rimu, this is a modern twist on the traditional wooded puzzle. On the surface there appears to be alot of repetition but each D is slightly different which adds to the complexity of this seemingly simple design.

Design file makes 5 puzzles on a P3 sheet due to the fact that material only comes in this size. If only one is required then file may be modified to allow space for other designs which may require this material.

Ponoku Anyone?

It’s Sudoku by Ponoko!!

Ponoku??

Anyways…. ;-) This idea combines wood puzzles and the traditional numbers game in a whole new way. The rules are the same as the original. This one started out as “Extreme Difficulty” but becomes a little easier in the melding of the two forms. Don’t be fooled though, it’ll still give the grey matter a workout.

Enjoy.

P.S.

Minor assembly required to glue the main back piece to the rest of the board. Current design has the same puzzle repeated 4 times.

Custom puzzles are available.

Marble Madness

Marble Madness is a two or four player game. It’s a little bit of luck, a little bit of strategy, and a lot of fun. Object of the game is to be the first player or team to get your marble to the bottom of the tower.

How to play:

TO START

Players must roll a 6 before they can put their marble into the tower. Until that time they can rotate discs in preparation. This helps to scramble the tower and ensure than no one has an unfair advantage.

Marbles are placed into the side opposite the player. This means that the player cannot see their own marble, only their opponents.

Players roll the die to determine which discs can be rotated. Each disc is numbered and a move is a quarter turn of the disc. Discs may be rotated in either direction. Moves may be combined based on the total roll of the die.

I.E.

Player rolls 5
Player can rotate (1/4 turn) disc 2 once, and disc 3 once for a total of 5.
or
Player could rotate (1/4 turn) disc 1 three times, and disc 2 once, again for a total of 5.

Player rolls 3
Disc 3 x 1=3
or
Disc 2 x 1 + Disc 1 x 1 =3
or
Disc 1 x 3 =3

A player must play the total of his or her roll.

Each disc has only one hole and by watching the rotation of the discs players will be able to anticipate how many turns it will take for the hole to rotate opposite them and allow their marble to drop, however since they cannot actually see their own marble they are guessing their progress based on sounds and the reactions of their opponent. Ideally the player will have an idea how far they have progressed through the tower and attempt to align the discs in preparation.

Conversely, because a player can see the progress of their opponents marble they must use strategy in an attempt to block or trick their opponent into false moves.

When playing a 4 player game, it can be played in one of two ways:

Cooperative, where opposing players work together as a team and the game ends when both marbles have exited the tower

OR

Every man for himself, where the first person to exit the tower wins.

The tower is made of a combination of 3mm acrylic. One colour for the sides and dividers, One colour for the discs, and clear for the window that holds the marble in.

Finished tower is 20cm high and 10cm square. The only extra component required for assembly is a 2mm x 18cm rod for the discs to rotate on. Also suggest rubber or felt feet for the bottom to avoid scratching.

2-4 Marbles and a single die are required for gameplay.

And since everyone else is doing it....here is a video of the game in play.

Kid tested, teacher approved!

Architext: a word-building game

Stack up etched transparent tiles. When the tiles are overlaid, the etchings can create all the letters of the alphabet. The game comes with an etched black acrylic carrying case with built-in tile racks for two players. The correct forms of all the letters are included on both sides of the case for easy reference.

Game for two players:
Each player starts by drawing 5 transparent tiles from the pile.
On each turn, the player draws 3 tiles. She must place three tiles on the board, begin to create a word. Once placed, the tiles cannot be moved on a later turn. The player may also place the three tiles on an existing word construction. If the player completes a word by finishing all the letters correctly, she gets to keeps all the tiles in that word (to be place in a "winnings" pile, and can immediately draw and play 3 more tiles. When all the tiles are exhausted, the player with the most wins.

Small MindGame

This is a reduced version of a mind game a friend of mine discovered in India. The box is about 9,4 x 11,6 cm, and the pieces 4x4, 4x2 and 2x2.

The goal is to get the big square piece out of the box, only sliding the pieces left-rigth-up-down. If you need help, contact me and I will give you some tips.

The photos will help you to build the game.

The material used is ACRYLIC-Clear Transparent, and 6mm tick. This thickness is important to fit the pieces. Template size: 181mm x 181mm. You may use transparent glue.

Good luck!!!!

Mira KeyRings

The eps file is on a small template and contains 20 nice/cool keyholders customized with a list of names corresponding to my friends' names. Size 2 x 4 cm, and 6mm width. But I can customize it to other names: company names, people names, places names (ex. house, beach, car, bike, whatever...). If I use a bigger template, more keyholders I can put on it and therefore less expensive will be each one of them. The fotos are on a 6mm transparent acrylic plastic, but any material can be used.

Spinning Top Acrylic

A spinning top. It looks best in the transparent acrylics but essentially can be made from any 3mm acrylic.
I can engrave something on the top for you, just send me an image or eps of what you want. See the photo of the colours for an example.
