Love Returns Haircomb

This comb features a split tailed swallow holding a stylized olive branch. This comb is purely for decoration and needs good support in the hair. It is 5.5 inches in length total, 2.5" in teeth, and 2.5" wide at the top. It reminds me of a Spanish mantilla and is made of black acrylic.

This piece was inspired by Victorian design, which was influenced by their love of the outdoors and nature, and ancient culture. Archaeological events of the time influenced design in interesting ways. In 1873, not even half way through the Victorian period, Heinrich Schliemann found the lost city of Troy, which caused a craze for all designs that were Ancient Greek. The Ancient Greeks associated the swallow in the Goddess Aphrodite (love and beauty). Also in this ancient culture, olive wreaths were worn by brides and of course they symbolize peace.
