This design is for 5 sets of full adder tiles. These sets can be used in a middle-school computer science class to demonstrate how a computer can add binary numbers.
Each tile has a laser-cut drawing of a logic gate or wires on it. Students are given a schematic for the full adder that they re-create using the tiles. Once complete, the process of binary addition can be simulated by taking tokens representing "0"s and "1"s and running them through the logic gates. It is assumed that the students are already familiar with the standard boolean operations (AND, OR, XOR, and NOT). [More instructions will be posted later.]
Each set can be used to create one bit-slice of a binary adder. Multiple adders can be connected (carry-out to carry-in) to add multi-digit binary numbers.
Each full adder tile set is 20 tiles (18 tiles for the adder + 2 blank tiles). The blank tiles can be used to reinforce the puzzle when multiple bit-slices are connected.
