Directives: Reflect Mirror

• made to order
• exists only digitally until ordered
• manufactured as locally as possible
• ships
• press fit assembly
• cutouts cast shadows

Directives integrate language and poetry into the everyday environment, emphasizing the idea of design as authorship. Each piece is created around a concise statement to serve as a personal, daily reminder. Included in the line is a stool ("rest"), a desk ("work") and a mirror ("reflect").

Their manufacturing process is highly efficient because they exist only as digital files until ordered, and then are manufactured and shipped locally. Once an order is in place, it is manufactured and shipped from a facility that is local to the customer. They are flat packed and assembled by the user using only a mallet.

Every part is lasercut from flat materials. The dark, burnt edges, a natural result of the laser cutting process, are showcased as a graphical element that frames the form. The hollow cutout of the letterforms allows light to shine through and cast a shadow of the word on a nearby surface.

2 ponOcto stools

This is a raw flatpack kit yielding 2 sturdy ponOcto stools.

What you get is the raw CNC cut. Which means that you will have to

- cut the pieces loose by cutting through the tabs
- sand off burr and edges (one pass with 100 grit, then finish with 200)

Assembly:

- choose the nicest side of the seat and put that face down on the floor
- insert 3 legs into the seat (3, NOT 4!)
- slot in the ring (again, notice the nicest face)
- insert last leg
- stand stool upright
- with a rubber mallet (or a hammer, but using a piece of wood as buffer), knock the ring in place by hitting close to the legs - work gradually and avoid hitting too hard (work on a hard surface, like a concrete floor)
- insert the 4 little keyhole pegs into the holes in the seat and knock them in place

Paint or seal the stool for longevity.

Tulip flatpack vase

There are only two different lasercut pieces in this design: Petal x 8 and Ring x 2. The petals are slotted into the rings and are held apart by a test tube. The 150mm x 25mm glass test tube makes the vase hold rigid, so there is no need for glue.

Because there are only two different laser cut components in this design, it's very easy to adjust the dimensions of the slots for different material thicknesses.

Plywood - Eurolite (Italian Poplar) 4.0 mm
P2 - 384.0 mm long x 384.0 mm wide
Making: $15.33
Material: $8.00
Total: $23.33

Cardboard structure for Pop-up Paper House

This is the structure for the pop-up paper house (sold separately at www.makepopupcards.com). This structure is made of four interlocking pieces of extra thick sheets of corrugated cardboard which form the walls and second floor, then four small pieces (to be glued to the pop-up cards) which make up the ground floor. Once assembled the structure measures approximately 10.25 square inches. No screws or any other hardware are necessary for assembly. The pieces can be pulled apart for flat storage. ONLY THE FIRST TWO PICTURES SHOW THE HOUSE YOU ARE ORDERING HERE. The other pictures show the house when it is completed with the paper pop-up cards which need to be ordered separately. They also show the rooms mounted on a foam core structure, not the sturdy 2ply cardboard on sale here.
