Crystalline Cube

Inspired by Hofstander's triplets that appear on the cover of Gödel Escher Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid, this puzzle's challenge is to put together a transparent cube.

However, one must work in several black pieces into the cube. When placed correctly, each of the 3 faces will reveal a different pair of letters. "Po" for Ponoko, "Cc" for Crystalline Cube, and "Re" for Rethinker Industries. Placing these black pieces is the key element of the puzzle that separates it from other cubic puzzles, as it requires planning and spatial ability.

The puzzle itself was designed with human nature in mind. Not only was this used against the solver to make the puzzle harder, but there are numerous pieces that will be tricky to incorporate. These are shaped like familiar objects, which keeps it enjoyable to put together (while cursing the "little-man" piece).

The puzzle can be made easier by allowing for missing pieces, which will not show when the cube is topped off. This is unlike traditional puzzles, because of the transparency of the material & its 3D nature.

To add replay value, extra black pieces are included which allows for one to create their own triplets & puzzles.

PETG foldable box

The few I made were .5mm, about 55mm cubed. The folds are scored with a vector engraving. They work real well and can put up with a bunch of abuse. I haven't had one break. There was talk in the forum of a living hinge, and I think this is an example.

I imagine this could be scaled up or down without trouble.

They attract dust!

Impossible Penrose triangle

The "impossible" tribar, also known as the Penrose triangle. This fantastic optical illusion has now been made possible through 3D printing. We have further enhanced the illusion by breaking it into cubes and added the dots of a die.

Watch the video:
    http://youtu.be/1HAqORTBSV0

A truly three-dimensional object, only made possible with a very special design trick. Please be aware that unlike other attempts to create a Penrose triangle, this model does not have any hidden openings nor hidden twists.

The model is 7.5" (19 cm) high and will come with a matching stand.

Cube 0001

A tracery cube. The cube is 10 cm on a side and consists of two interlocking 3d printed pieces. Slots in the pieces allow acrylic lenses to slide into place. A light inside the cube would be very interesting...
