Steampunk Gears

This set of gears is a design I use for my wall graphic business. It has been very popular with customers and I thought it would look wicked actually cut out of a material so that it would have depth. It would be suitable as wall decor or as accents on DIY cabinets, chests, drawers, boxes etc. One suggestion for finishing this design would be to cut it from MDO and apply a spray brass finish then "weather it" by wiping with some black paint in a few spots, leaving just enough to suggest age and corrosion.

Steampunk Couture: Goggle Leather Pattern

This is a ready to print eps file for my CNC steampunk goggles. You can find more details, 3d and 2d cad files, photos, and a full list of materials at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3448

To complete the design you will need the parts list I put up on Thingiverse. This requires 3d prints which can be purchased here http://www.shapeways.com/shops/gianteye

I cut my design out of the Ponoko natural russett leather. I then cleaned off the laser cut edges with rubbing alcohol, dyed the leather, conditioned it with neatsfoot oil, and began to stitch. The leather is fairly hard so you'll want to flex it a good bit with your hands to soften it up before sewing.

Good luck!

If you're assembling yourself a pair of Steampunk Couture Goggles, you will need a pair of these to cap things off. I recommend laser cutting them out of the 3mm red tint that ponoko offers.

For more details on the design visit http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3448
