Design notes

Fluoro Acrylic absorbs light through the surface of the material and emits it from the edge.

Acrylic is hard and stiff as plastics go. It is sensitive to stress concentrations sharing a certain fragility with glass. This is most evident if parts are small or thin. Details should not be smaller than 1mm/0.04" as they are likely to be too fragile.

Acrylic retains detail when laser cut and it engraves well. For tips on engraving see this blog post.

Adding radii to corners can reduce the risk of breaking. For some tips on how to design for acrylic see this blog post.

Acrylic can scratch easily and should be cleaned with a mild solution of dish detergent and warm water. Never clean with a other cleaners not suitable for acrylic or with a dry cloth.

Typical uses

Acrylic is commonly used as signage, glazing and in building applications, fabricated point of sale displays, menu holders, display cabinets, machine guards, furniture inserts, aquariums & fish tanks, jewelry and tableware.

Environmental info

Acrylic is non toxic and recyclable in some areas.

Adhesives, joints & fastenings

Acrylic can be joined with epoxy, Weldon 3, 16 and 40. Dichloromethane and chloroform. Screw joints should be pre-drilled to avoid splitting.

Hi, I was actually looking for a way to add a comment about the acrylic options. There are some great color options available, however, several of the more interesting ones are transparent and tinted. Are you going to add more opaque options in the near future. A lot of more work have working parts behind the acrylic that I don't want seen and it would be nice to have a wider variety of opaque acrylics. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback Krystal! We add new materials and colors on a regular basis - driven mostly by Prime subscription member material requests. One thing to note is that sourcing non-standard colors of acrylic tends to lead to much higher sheet prices than the regular ones - most of which we already offer. Keep an eye on our newsletters, and we'll be announcing new materials as they're added. Cheers!

FYI, this fluoro color does not have the same strong optical effect that the pink and green fluoros have. The cut edges have some visible color that the non-fluoro acrylics don't have, but on account of blue being a dark color, you don't really see a light-up effect (or at least a very subtle one).
