This acrylic character is designed to dance. The operator only has to lift and lower one arm side to make both sides move together. The legs work in the same fashion. The head is also designed to move from left to right.
The mechanism is a simple design. Both the arms and legs use a half gear to move both arms and legs at the same time. The half gear mechanism is attached to each end of both the arms and legs. One side is designed with a half female gear while the opposite side has a half male gear. When the arm or leg is lifted or lowered the male and female gears intertwine allowing them to rotate together. An ordinary drinking straw is used as a bushing or sleeve. The straw is threaded into the both the body joints. The holes then cut so that they are flush to the body. The bushing works like insulation inside the holes and helps the arms move more smoothly with the slick acrylic material. Clips are then threaded through the pivot point, holes, through the body and joints as well as the head.
