The ant is an interactive character designed to allow the movement of the mandibles and the rear pair of legs. Not only can they move but pushing one can force the other by means of a simple mechanism. When the mandibles are open, moving the rear legs back will close the mandibles. Once the mandibles are closed one can open them and push the rear legs open. It helps to move each of these parts symmetrically, though part of the function of the mechanism allows for slight flexibility when applying the forces.
The mechanism is a simple pulley system where the left mandible is linked to the left leg and the right mandible is linked to the right leg. The machine screws allow for smooth motion and secure string.
